An article on the evaluation of an emergency farm surveillance for highly pathogenic avian influenza was published
In recent years, there have been frequent outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in
Japan as well as the other countries. We evaluated emergency farm surveillance conducted on
surrounding farms after an HPAI outbreak using an infectious disease mathematical model. It was
found that detecting secondary infection farms through testing in particular using live chickens is
difficult, suggesting that improving the voluntarily detection ability among poultry farmers through
training and other measures is more effective.
