研究業績

発展途上国における持続可能な食品衛生向上

 発展途上国では、ほとんどの食品が非正規流通、いわゆる「闇市」を通って販売されます。これまでは、政府が管理する正規食品流通について国際的支援がなされてきました。また食品の小規模生産者へは、流通を考慮することなく、生産性向上の支援が行われてきました。
 このようなアプローチでは、正規流通経路に販路のない小規模生産者への支援が成功することは稀であり、途上国の多くの人が「質」より「安さ」を求める闇市食品の衛生が向上することもなかったのです。
 そこで国際農業研究が今取り組もうとしているのは、流通経路:バリューチェイン(以下VC)に着目し、食品のリスクと経済性、それから伝統的考えを考慮しながら、小規模生産者が生産する食品の衛生を向上し、出来るだけ安価に正規VCに組み入れる介入研究です。疫学ユニットでは、これまで国際家畜研究所(ILRI)と共同で、サハラ以南アフリカ8か国における研究を進めて来ました。現在はベトナムとケニヤでのプロジェクトに取り組んでいます。
